|A Personal Invitation from Jean-Michel Cousteau|
It is with great pleasure that I extend a personal invitation to dive enthusiasts to join me as we set sail across the magnificent waters for French Polynesia and the South Pacific on board the luxurious, six-star Paul Gauguin. While the ship offers superb accommodations, the highest levels of personalized service, and exquisite cuisine, it also offers a great variety of opportunities for divers and non-divers alike.
There is a fully-equipped water sports marina with complimentary kayaking, waterskiing and wind surfing. The optional dive excursions, lead by the on board PADI dive masters, depart directly from the Marina. For those seeking pampering and rejuvenation, there is the highly rated Carita Spa on board, offering a wide selection of spa treatments.
Throughout these voyages we will be visiting some of the most incredible waters and most romantic locations on earth. Among the highlights of our
popular 10 Night voyages where you you can dive almost every day
are visits to world-renowned Society Islands: Papeete,Tahiti, Huahine, Bora Bora, Taha'a and Moorea; and in the Tuamotus: Fakarava & Rangiroa. Our 12 Night voyage will include Fiji, Tonga, Cook and Society Islands while our 14 night voyage will visit the Marquesas, Tuamotus and Society Islands.
I will be presenting lectures on my recent expeditions on the works of the Ocean Futures Society, whose mission is to explore our global ocean, educate people throughout the world to act responsibly for its protection, and celebrating the ocean's vital importance to the survival of all life on our planet.
I hope to see you on board the Paul Gauguin in 2012!

The SCUBA Experience Aboard the m/s Paul Gauguin:
The only luxury ship in the French Polynesian islands offering PADI certification onboard.
All dives operated while onboard the m/s Paul Gauguin are guided by a professional PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Dive Master/Instructor. Each is skilled in ensuring that you have the best dive possible, from helping you identify and improve your level of experience to seeking out the most rewarding dive locales. Plus, The Gauguin is fully equipped, including onboard practice pools, a tank-filling station, and two new inflatable dive boats with ladders. Each holds eight divers and two instructors. No tender to shore is needed--you simply leave from the marina platform of the ship and return to it after your dive, where a warm shower awaits. And on top of that, we take care of all the details for you, from set-up and gearing you before you enter the water to leading you through the deep. The only thing you have to do is breathe.
2012 Tuamotus and The Society Islands 10-Night Cruise*
Day 1: Embark the m/s Paul Gauguin in Papeete, Tahiti (Society Islands)
The islands of Polynesia are a gorgeous collection of volcanic islands and atolls strewn lazily across the grand Pacific Ocean. The island of Tahiti proper is the largest of the 118 islands and atolls that comprise French Polynesia. Papeete, the modern capital of Tahiti and her islands, contains government offices, hospitals, banks, and many other services dedicated to serving the islands, as well as guests who come to these islands for a life-enriching experience. . You'll embark The Gauguin here this afternoon and have time to settle into your cabin before dinner onboard later in the evening. The ship will set sail tonight. Arrive a couple days prior to embarkation and we can arrange your accommodations at an exotic resort in Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorea or Fiji for a pre cruise dive package**.
Day 2: Huahine/Bora Bora, Society Islands
Your first port of call is Huahine, known as "The Garden Island" for its lush rainforests and dramatic terrain. While here, you can dive the expansive lagoon** or take advantage of a dive refresher course, explore the island's culture, or picnic on the beach. You will arrive in Bora Bora this evening.
Day 3: Bora Bora, Society Islands
You have 2 full days to explore this magical island on your own. Perhaps you'll relax on our exclusive, private beach on a motu just off the island. Or take your pick of optional shore excursions: day or night dive the edge of the famed Toopua submerged crater, surrounding reefs, coral gardens or clear water lagoons teeming with exotic marine life...circle the island by wave runner or jetboat ... traverse the interior by off-road safari ... enjoy a romantic overnight escapade at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa ... and so much more.
Day 4: Bora Bora
Pulitzer Prize-winning author James A. Michener described Bora Bora as "the most beautiful island in the world." Behold Mount Otemanu rising up from the horizon. The rest of the day is yours to admire the island's picture-postcard beauty as you dive to your heart's content.
Day 5: Rangiroa, Tuamotus
Divers from all over the world flock to Rangiroa to experience the extraordinary visibility of its lagoon and witness the multitude of tropical fish, manta rays, sharks and dolphins. Here, SCUBA diving is a must. Spend a day beneath the water's surface dazzled by an underwater technicolor fish frenzy in the reef passes surrounding the world's second-largest atoll as you drift dive the legendary Tiputa Pass. Ashore, discover the daily activities of the Paumotu people, perhaps at one of the interior lagoons' black-pearl farms. Or indulge in the island's second-most popular pursuit: doing nothing at all.
Day 6: Fakarave, Tuamotus
Known in the days before modern navigation as the "Dangerous Archipelago" for its shallow passages, the Tuamotus islands are a diver's paradise. Fakarva's diverse ecosystem has earned it the designation of a UNESCO-Classified Nature Reserve. Dive the two massive Garuae &Tumakahua Canyon Passes on the island where experienced divers can descend up to 130 feet into a world of cauliflower coral, gray sharks, and fish schooling by the thousands. Or stay on land and explore the island's charming villages, ancient temples and 19th-century coral church.
Day 7: At Sea
Enjoy shipboard life today: relax poolside or upgrade your dive certification level, watch the South Pacific slip by, play some table tennis, enjoy Cousteau's fascinating lectures or take advantage of our Reading Library.
Day 8: Taha'a (Motu Mahana), Society Islands
Motu Mahana, an islet adjacent to Taha'a, is our very own South Seas paradise, featuring white-sand beaches with swaying palms, crystal-clear waters, and gentle breezes. As an exclusive Paul Gauguin event, you will spend a full day on this idyllic island doing exactly as you please. Relax in the shade of a palm tree ... engage in a game of volleyball ... dive in the motu's turquoise lagoons** and enjoy a delicious al fresco barbecue lunch with Polynesian entertainment.
Day 9: Moorea, Society Islands
With its abundance of fresh fruits and flowers, spectacular mountain peaks, peaceful multi-hued lagoons, and palm-fringed beaches, Moorea features a magnificent beauty that is unsurpassed. White-sand beaches lapped by the
translucent shimmering lagoon water and shaded by palm, coconut, and ironwood groves stretch for miles. Wall dive the infamous "Ledges" of Moorea's massive coral reef wall or experience a unique educational "Shark Gallery" dive. During your visit, you might also wish to take an optional air-conditioned coach ride around the island to admire the stunning views.
Day 10: Moorea/Papeete, Tahiti
Wreck dive and explore the remains of ancient shipwrecks amongst the sea turtles and staggering amount of fish species that call Moorea's waters home. Or simply relax and revel in the island's natural splendor. Late this afternoon, the ship casts off for Tahiti's capital, where you'll enjoy a final overnight.
Day 11: Papeete, Tahiti
Disembark this morning after brunch and enjoy a wonderful mini tour of Papeete and transfer to your complimentary day room at a Tahiti resort (if necessary) prior to your overnight flight departure home. Or prolong your stay in paradise at a resort overwater bungalow (see left photo) for a highly unique and romantic accommodation experience complete with thatched roofs and see through glass flooring to seal the memory forever of your once in a life time diving experience.
