Oasis of the Seas
Close Up

The Oasis of the Seas, making her maiden voyage December 5, 2009, has proven to live up to her reputation as a destination in itself. It truly wouldn't matter where you sailed and if you never ported as she has so much to offer her visitors. Beginning with the shear size of the ship, it takes a long time just to walk through the many vast common areas on board. With 7 "neighborhoods" to visit, 17 floors, and a wide array of activities, dining venues, clubs and attractions to choose from, there is always something new around the corner. I had the privilege of attending a "pre-inaugural" sailing November 20-22 and got a full taste of Oasis and all she has to offer! |

The Royal Promenade
The Promenade is located on Deck 5 and is the "hub" of the ship. Along the bright Promenade one can find fine retail shops, several restaurants serving a variety of food, most for no additional charge, theme bars, and the all important Guest Services and Concierge. Bustling with people literally all day and all night, this is the place to go when you don't know where to go.
Whether you need evening clothes, a bathing suit, souvenirs or a Tylenol, you can find it on the Promenade. Fine jewelry, watches, t-shirts and let's not forget the duty-free shop.
While I was on board, the crew hosted a 70s night here, where floating above the crowd on a retractable cat walk, the Rising Tide Bar and on the rooftops, we were entertained with song and dance by such 70's greats as the Village People, Samantha Sang and the Bee Gees. The start time? Midnight!! Needless to say there is always something "up" on the Royal Promenade! |

Central Park
By far my favorite spot to go on board, sunny Central Park transports you to the center of a lush green-space found in many cities around the world. They have music, either live or recorded, playing all the time and the air is fresh. It is an outdoor venue, surrounded by tall fascades giving it the feel of a refreshingly quiet spot in a bustling city. Leaf-shaped windows privide views of the Royal Promenade and also give natural light to that area below, a wonderful surprise on both counts.
Central Park is the top stop on the Rising Tide Bar, which begins it's trip on the Promenade and gracefully rises to a stop 3 floors up, here in Central Park. In addition to the music and plant-life, this space is also enhanced by several restaurants and bistros, a professional photography studio and a few specialty shops. All offer alfresco seating adding to the city feel of the area. All in all, a wonderful addition. |
